Church Camp
I just got back from church camp about 2 weeks ago & I've been pretty busy since, so that's why I haven't blogged in forever. But camp was totally awesome. Our camp paster was very very straight forward & didn't sugar-coat anything. If he wanted us to know something, he just said it straight out. I loved camp & so did all my church. I think that it's changed all of our lives in some way. I think that anyone could benefit from coming to camp with us. If you're interested, let me know. I'd love to help you to come with us. It's every summer. Our church rents vans to go usually. If you're interested in coming with us or even just visiting my church, shoot me an email because I'd love to give you a ride on a Wednesday, Sunday or Sunday night. gemogirl91@yahoo.com
At church, we have something new for youth on Sunday nights. It's called The Upper Room Night or T.U.R.N. The youth worship leader for those nights is Megan Marlborough. It will begin August 9, 2009 at 6:30pm. We would love to see you there. :)
In the month of September, the youth group at my church will be hosting a talent show fundraiser. Anyone is welcome to register to showcase their talent. The date is September, 12th. Email me if you'd like to be in it or if you'd like to come watch. :) gemogirl91@yahoo.com. Also, if you would like to get a monthly newsletter for what's going on with our youth group, email me & we can mail it to you.
God loves you. So much in fact that he sent his ONLY son to die on a cross so that you are able to join him in heaven one day. If that's not ultimate love, then I don't know what is. All you have to do to be saved is believe in your heart that Jesus is who he said he was, know & confess that you are, in fact, a sinner & that he died on the cross for you, to wash away your sins. Then, you have to ask God to forgive you of the sins you've committed. This is where your walk with Jesus Christ begins. Go talk with a paster or a parent or some one who's a strong, trusted Christian if you need some questions answered about God & what he's done for you. I'd be happy to help you meet with my paster if you'd just let me now. Emial me. :)
Romans 12:2 says: And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good and acceptable, and perfect will of God.

Summer Vacation Will Follow You To School
There are a lot of parties going on this summer. Huge parties i hear. But if you go to one of these parties, remember what you do at those parties aren't going to just be forgotten. Depending on what you do, people will remember what you do when school gets back in. Girls, if you decide to sleep with whoever many guys, that's not going to be forgotten. Chances are that when school gets back in, if you were like that over summer vacation, everyone will probably not think such wonderful thoughts about you. Same thing for the guys. But the point is to watch what you do now because it will matter later on & it will effect how high school goes for you. One big mistake & everything goes down the tube.
Living in the moment is good, but it can also be pretty bad. If you want to live in the moment, think about the consequences of what you actions will be. If you don't think about what will happen if you do different things, then you'll end up working at a fast food place regretting the 4 years you were in high school that determines how good or bad of a life you have in the "real world." You don't want to look back on these years & be like, "If I had just paid more attention to my grades instead of boys/girls & parties, my whole life would be totally different."
So I suppose the main point of this post is that you need to watch what you do now & keep an eye on your grades because they're what's going to get you far in life. Just because you can play a sport well doesn't mean that that's all you're going to do your whole life. You need to have something to fall back on if say you get hurt playing your sport & can't ever play it again. You can have fun & keep an eye on your grades. It's all about balance & considering the consequences of your actions.

I'm Working on This....
Something that should be up on my blog soon is a Band of the Week. What it is is basically I'll pick a band or someone can comment & leave a suggestion for a band, I'll do some research on the band & post what i find so that anyone reading my blog can hopefully find a new band they haven't heard of before. Right now I'm working on My Chemical Romance as my first Band of the Week. Most people think all their songs talk about is suicide & killing people, but as you all soon will see, there's much more to the band than just some "morbid" lyrics.

This Week's Band - My Chemical Romance
Also known as MCR or My Chem, My Chemical Romance is an Emo/Pop punk band that started in 2001 in Jersey City, New Jersey. The band has faced much criticism from other artists as well as parents and media. An emo girl by the name of Hannah Bond who lived in the United Kingdom killed herself. Her parents began to blame My Chemical Romance & the emo lifestyle. But MCR denies being an emo band & claims that their music does not support suicide. If you take the time to actually listen to the band & read the lyrics, you'll see that they don't support suicide or killing. However, you will find that they do have somewhat dark lyrics.
People with tortured pasts seem to like MCR. But they're music is good for anyone. Their CDs in order of which they were released are: Studio Albums: 2002 - I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love, 2004 - Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, 2006 - The Black Parade; Live Albums: 2006 - Life On The Murder Scene, 2008 - The Black Parade Is Dead! and in 2009 - ¡Venganza!. A Studio Album is recorded in a studio, whereas a Live Album is recorded at a concert or performance.
MCR was formed shortly after 9-11 by front man Gerard Way & drummer Matt Pelissier. Way wrote the song "Skylines and Turnstiles" to express how he felt about September 11th. Shortly after, Ray Toro joined the band because, at the time, Way couldn't sing & play the guitar at the same time. The songs "Our Lady of Sorrows" and "Cubicles" were recorded in Pelissier's attic gaining the name the band now calls the first recording sessions, The Attic Demos. Gerard's younger brother, Mikey Way, joined the band after hearing The Attic Demos. While the band was with Eyeball Records, they met Frank Iero who was the lead vocalist & guitarist for the band Pencey Prep, which broke up in 2001-2002.
My Chem began offering free downloads of their music through PureVolume and MySpace which helped them begin to build a fan base.
In July 2004, after signing with Reprise Records, touring with Avenged Sevenfold, releasing four singles ("Thank you for the Venom", "I'm Not Okay (I promise)", "Helena", and "The Ghost of You") from their second album, Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge, and returning from Japan, the band replaced Matt Pelissier with Bob Bryar.
In 2007, Mikey Way temporarily left the band to spend time with his new wife, Alicia Simmons-Way. His temporary replacement was a friend of the band by the name of Matt Cortez. Mikey Way was away from the band from April 19, 2007 until October 4th of that same year.
My Chem released a new single named "Desolation Row" on February 1, 2009. It was recorded to play at the end with the credits for the new film Watchmen. The film was released on March 6, 2009.
On March 9, 2009, the band announced that they would be releasing ¡Venganza!, "a collection of nine never-before-seen live videos, straight from the encore set of the Mexico City show from October 2007". It was sold on a bullet-shaped flash drive and also contained exclusive photos of the band. It was released on April 29, 2009.
MCR's new album is expected to come out late 2009 or early 2010, so be on the look-out.
The band describes themselves as "rock" or "violent, dangerous pop" however, they reject the term "emo". Way said in an interview that they were never emo, as he says, emo is "a pile of s***." Gerard Way has said, "We love bands like Queen, where it's huge and majestic, but also bands like Black Flag and the Misfits, who would go absolutely crazy." Way has also said that his band models after The Smashing Pumpkins, another band they admire.
My Chemical Romance is one of my favorite bands & I'm looking forward to their new album. I hope you've learned something you didn't already know. My Chemical Romance's CDs are available at Hastings & any other music store. If you would like to read Hannah Bond's whole story, go to http://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-566481/Why-child-safe-sinister-cult-emo.html.

School's Almost Out
In a few days school will be coming to an end. Though for most kids this is a happy time, for others, it's not such a happy time. I'm moving on to high school next year & so are a lot of my friends. Personally, I'm not too torn over leaving middle school, but I will miss my teachers. The main thing we all need to keep in mind at this time though is that what we say & do now is what's going to affect us later. We need to be mindful of everything that happens right now because these years right here are the years we're going to remember when we're 50 years old & wishing we were 14 again. Right now it may not seem like what we do matters, but depending on what grades we get now & how we act in & out of school, will determine if we can go to college & get a good job. Chances are, when we get into the "real world," we're not going to be around the people we strive so hard to be popular with now. So, why try to be someone or something you're not just to be popular with some 10 people that you're not going to see after high school?
There's some food for thought. Chew on it for a while.
